Frequently Asked Questions

How should I prepare for my visit to the store?

BRING A PHOTO OF THE SPACE

This will allow us to find a fixture that fulfills your lighting needs and complements your home decor.

REPLACING A FIXTURE
Count the number of bulbs in your current light fixture. Do you need more light or is the current amount of light sufficient for your room? Notice, is there a lot of natural light in the room?

FOR CEILING FIXTURES OR FANS
Measure the ceiling height and notice if it's flat or sloped.

FOR A FIXTURE OVER YOUR DINING ROOM TABLE
measure the length and width of your dining table, the room dimensions and ceiling height.

A HALLWAY
How wide is it and how tall are the ceilings? What do you have there now?

A BATHROOM VANITY LIGHT
How wide is your vanity or sink? How wide and tall is your mirror? What is the color of your faucet? If the ceiling is sloped, will it affect the width of the fixture? If you have a medicine cabinet is it recessed or surface mount?

LIGHTING FOR NEW KITCHENS
For a brand new kitchen wait until you have ordered your cabinets, then come in with the kitchen's final layout plans. We can design the entire kitchen lighting layout. Ceiling height is important.

A WHOLE NEW HOUSE?
When the framing is done, come by with your plans. Make an appointment at least a few days prior to your visit. We can schedule two hour increments, beginning at 11 and ending at 3. We will try our best to provided you with our undivided attention, however be aware we may need to attend to other customers visiting the store.

PAYMENT
We prefer check or cash

Do you repair lamps?

NO. We have limited access to lamp shades and parts. Things take two-three weeks to arrive, they are not in stock.
Call Mike at Vintage Lighting in Aurora, NY
(315) 364-8182 or Steve Bowman here in Ithaca at (607) 351-3540

Do you sell glass replacements?

GLASS FOR A FIXTURE PURCHASED FROM US LESS THAN A YEAR AGO: we can likely order you a replacement.

GLASS FOR AN OLD FIXTURE: we typically can't help, there is very limited access to replacement glass, and it would need to be ordered taking at least two to three weeks. Prior to visiting us stop by Significant Elements or the Ithaca Re-Use Center.

Do you sell bulbs and parts?

We do sell many different types of bulbs, not for cars, plants, Ikea fixtures, or funky things, just for regular lighting fixtures or lamps. If we don't have it in stock we can likely order it, but again it's a two-three week wait.
